Our second and final stop at Copper Canyon was at the village of Possada Barranca, at the luxury Hotel Mirador. This hotel was built on the cliff with an absolutely spectacular view of the canyon.
Several families of Raramuri indians live directly below the hotel. There is a path that takes hotel guests right to their homes for anyone who wants to go and visit.
One of the hotel staff told the story that when Raramuri women are ready to give birth, they go off alone into the canyon with nothing but a knife. Their goal is to prove their womanhood by delivering the baby alone!
We were not that adventurous, but we did take a two hour horseback ride through town and along the canyon rim. It was beautiful, but I think my body had enough at one and a half hours!
